Coaches

James
James had a thoroughly undistinguished but fun middle and high school athletic career in wrestling and football before sitting around for several years getting fat, weak, and lazy.  After getting sick of being out of shape, he started the road to recovery by studying Brazilian jiu-jitsu at the highly regarded Easton Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Boulder.  He eventually gained enough nerve to compete, and a near death from exhaustion triple overtime experience convinced him he needed further conditioning.  He abandoned his commercial gym, turned to CrossFit, and has made continued progress ever since.

James is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu blue belt, a certified level 1 CrossFit and CrossFit Football instructor, as well as a USAW Sports Performance Coach.  James is training for a Powerlifting meet in November; he's gunning for a 400+ pound squat.  He is also training for the indoor rowing championships with a hot 500 m.  His particular interests include absolute strength, short metabolic conditioning for athletes, and making people more awesome than he is so he has someone to chase.

Vanessa
Vanessa discovered barbell lifting late in life, after a lot of yoga and hiking.  She discovered the low-intensity stuff doesn't really change body composition or make you faster.  She says she is in the best shape of her life at over forty, thanks to CrossFit and Paleo eating!

She is a certified CrossFit Level 1 instructor, a CrossFit Olympic Weightlifting, CrossFit Mobility, and CrossFit Kids instructor, as well as a USAW Sports Performance CoachShe loves passing on the accumulated wisdom of many coaches’ years of experience.  Let her obsess over the details for you so that you can get in, get strong and conditioned, and get on with your life.

Check out her blog with fun and informative links at NintiesSmall, but mostly she just tweets at @twinfreaksCF.

Margaret is in the middle, getting first place

Margaret

After her doctor said, "Lose weight or die early!" she began her quest for fitness through diet and exercise.  Her background as a massage therapist gives her a thorough understanding of the human body and a way with mobility work. She has a good eye for the technical details of the Olympic lifts and she loves to lift heavy.  Margaret is particularly good with older athletes, people with orthopedic issues, and people who wish to lose weight.

She attained her level one certification in January of 2009 and has been coaching ever since.  She is CrossFit Kids Certified and TwinFreaks CrossFit is a CrossFit Kids affiliate.  She is also CrossFit Barbell and CrossFit Endurance certified, and is a USAW Sports Performance Coach.

Sara
She says "The mental and physical changes of CrossFit can be painful yet so rewarding.  Again and again I have stepped out of my comfort zone to challenge myself through competition, faster times, heavier weights or maybe just wanting to be faster than the person next to me....who knew I would feel that way?  My diet is much better and more consistent than before CrossFit.  Today I am a much healthier person with lean muscle and maintaining  weight."

Sara is excited to start teaching here at TwinFreaks CrossFit.  She has her Level 1 CrossFit certification and is undergoing a rigorous process of interning with our experienced coaches.  Expect to see her in On-Ramp and other classes!

She blogs at Kettlebells and Lipstick.
